MK Life is Never Dull!

Life for an MK (Missionary Kid) is never dull!  This year we have been so many places and met so many new people.  Every Sunday we are in a different church.  Every week we help load the car to visit another area.  Here are some of the things we've been able to do this year:
  • We traveled through 14 states
  • We were able to visit more than 30 national parks and 10 state parks.
  • We completed about 30 Junior Ranger Programs at those parks
  • We were able to visit Washington, D.C.
  • We took 24 ferry rides
  • We visited 16 lighthouses
  • We drove across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel
  • We visited a NASA space station
  • We went to 4 car races
  • We visited Jamestown, Yorktown and Williamsburg
  • We got to feed a cow a Pop-Tart!  (Thanks MickeyMoo!)
  • We went to the Circus
  • We saw real snow for the first time
  • We spent about 60 days in hotel rooms
  • We went to the Dixie Classic Fair
  • We visited two aquariums
  • We took part in 12 mission conferences
  • We went to a gold mine
  • We visited numerous civil war battlefields and forts
  • We went to the zoo
  • We rode on trains, planes, boats, buses, wagons, bicycles a zip-line and of course our white van!
We can't even remember everything we did!  The good news is we managed to keep caught up with our school work and made good grades this year.  Maybe its time for us to go back to Peru where we can get some rest!

Oh, and Olivia wants us to remember that she had two MRI's, stayed four nights in the hospital and got to eat hospital bacon in bed!

Here are a few pictures of the thousands we've taken throughout the year:

Olivia hanging around the cistern at Fort Macon.

While traveling down the interstate, we got to see the "Miracle on the Hudson" airplane on its way to Charlotte, NC.

"Daddy, I think we spent more time this year in this van than any other place!"

You'll never believe what I found in Tennessee!

Go fly a kite!

Here's Elizabeth as Blackbeard!

Olivia as "Blackbeard the Pirate!"

Elizabeth hunts for shells at our "secret" shelling spot on Ocracoke Island.

Future Sword Fighter?

Yes! Elizabeth went up to a dog. (For those of you who don't know her well, she usually doesn't go anywhere near dogs.)

Future Surfer!

Hey! Who says I've outgrown this tricycle.

Here we are at the end of a great vacation.

Here's Elizabeth at her first piano recital! She did a great job and plans to continue lessons when we return to Peru!

Welcome to our Blog

Thanks for stopping by. Take a look at some of our recent adventures.

Congratulations Olivia!

Guess who graduated from Kindergarten!?!

Olivia with her teacher, Mrs. Gilmore.

Elizabeth took a field trip with her class to Reed Gold Mine. The site of the first gold discovery in America. They even panned for gold. Elizabeth didn't find any gold, but several of her classmates found tiny flakes.

Ahhh! Spring is in the air!

Here's Olivia at Hanging Rock State Park.

We were able to visit Wallops Island NASA Space Center. With this rocket, Sam, a monkey, was launched into space!

The first Poe in space, Olivia!

You're right! We once again became Junior Rangers. This time we were at Assateague Island, on the eastern shore of Virginia.

Here we are at Fort Monroe where Jefferson Davis was held as a prisoner. This was the actual flag that was hung in his cell.

On Easter Sunday, we stopped by historic Saint Lukes Church near Smithfield, VA. It is the oldest church in America from about 1632.

We got to see the world's largest and the world's oldest country hams. (Our dad insists on showing us all of these "important" things wherever we travel!)

You guessed it! We got to see the world's oldest peanut in Smithfield, VA.

How many chickens are in this picture?

Spring in Virginia

In April we went out of town for three weeks! Our family took part in several mission conferences. While we were traveling we went to Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg. We visited many interesting sites all over coastal Virginia.

We learned so much at Jamestowne, the first permanent English settlement in North America. (We became Junior Rangers too!)

Olivia got to feed "Mickey-Moo" the pop-tart eating cow!

Here we are with Pocahontas. (Daddy took pictures here when he was a little boy!)
